2016 Cascadia Rising Companion Exercise Announcements

7:56 AM, June 8, 2016 (from Anne Rosinski, CGS/CA Clearinghouse)

THIS IS A DRILL –The California Earthquake Clearinghouse is activated in response to a M9 earthquake on the Cascadia subduction zone.  There are wide-spread reports of ground failure in Humboldt and Del Norte counties.  Unconfirmed observations of ground failure have been reported as far south as the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento River delta.  In addition, tsunami warnings have been issued for the entire coast of California.

We’re off to a great start. For the CA Clearinghouse, one of the most important goals of this build-up exercise is to raise awareness of the complexities of response to a multi-state, multi-FEMA Region earthquake and tsunami response effort.  We thank all of the partners who participatedMonday in our first ever call down of clearinghouse organizations, including WA, OR, ID, AK, CA, and numerous federal, state and municipal organizations.  This call has already led to increased coordination between the National Guard and USGS Hazards Data Distribution Center, for request, collection, and distribution of imagery across the impacted region, and activation of the International Charter. This increased coordination will benefit all.

Please continue to practice with the various tools.  Don’t forget to change your location to see incidents reported around the state.  Practice adding photos, pdfs and observations.  If you have questions or problems, please call in now to the number below.

We ask that each day that you participate, that you check in at the Clearinghouse.  One of the requirements of the Disaster Service Worker program, which allows the CA Clearinghouse to provide limited liability insurance to our volunteers, is that volunteers check in and out each day.

Clearinghouse volunteers are requested to check in with the Clearinghouse by taking the following steps :

  1. Before heading out into the field, access the Spot on Response App at https://app.spotonresponse.com/index.php and login.
  2. Please select the yellow Item Of Interest labeled “California Earthquake Clearinghouse” from the list below the map.
  3. Press the “Pencil” icon in the upper left hand corner, and then
  4. Press “Check-In” from the “Pencil” Actions menu.
  5. Your name will appear as joining the team in the “Observations” menu.

Further information will be provided on the Clearinghouse website and SpotOnResponse.
